A crazy Libertarian conspiracy theorist like me can’t even make this shit up.

Seriously, the Stache Act? Didn’t Iceland overthrow their government for voting on whether or not to sell alcohol on a certain day?

What’s next, tax deductions for Brazilian waxes? Nose trimmers?

A phrase taught in schools across the country. “When in doubt, FDR”. This phrase exists to help history students who may not know the answer to a question on an exam.

FDR did so many things that if you’re not sure what President did something, just guess FDR and you’ll probably be right!

Does this make him the greatest President in our history? In my estimation it makes him one of the worst.

Here is my application of the phrase, “when in doubt, FDR”. Take my exam and see how many of these questions can be answered with FDR. (Hint: all of them)

1.) This President issued executive order 6102, criminalizing the ownership of monetary gold. Punishment: 10 years in prison or a $10,000 fine. (In ’33, $10k was A LOT of money)

2.) This President used sanctions against another nation’s oil supply in an attempt to curb military advancements by that nation. (Japanese oil embargo of 1941, prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor)

3.) This President attempted to change the structure of the Supreme Court so that he could add new justices who were favorable to his proposed policies.

4.) This President started a social program aimed at assisting those individuals above the age of 65 with retirement through the taxing of wages. This tax was instituted when the average life expectancy was only 58 for men and 62 for women. (Social Security)

5.) This President ordered an entire segment of the US population to be forcibly removed from their homes, jobs, schools and placed in interment camps. (Japanese Americans)

6.) This President allowed the submarines of a foreign navy to dominate the Gulf of Mexico effectively killing all trade there. This President also allowed that same navy’s submarines to patrol our Eastern seaboard uncontested enabling them to sink hundreds of trade and passenger vessels. (Nazi U-Boats)

7.) This President presided over the loss of American territory to the invasion of a foreign military. (Hint: Japan’s invasion of Alaska)

8.) This President failed to take heed of warnings and adequately provide for the defense of Pearl Harbor prior to Japans “surprise” attack. (Congressman Martin Dies submitted a map of the planned Japanese attack to the President prior to December 7th 1941, it was ignored)

9.) This President used massive government stimulus to attempt to bring the country out of depression, as a result “the great depression” lasted for 23 years. (The New Deal)

10.) This President was known for cozy relationships with communist countries, he even appointed several communists to government office. (China, Russia, Judge Frankfurter among others)

So kids just remember, when in doubt, FDR.

This writing came from a Facebook page that I follow. I found it to be right on the mark. People are accusing Libertarians of being satanic, this is the perfect counter. The writing is on the same order as my post about Bastiat’s “The Law”, it is titled “Legal Plunder” read it here.

This is libertarian philosophy from a Christian perspective.

“I hold this truth to be self-evident, that the entire human race is equally created in the image of God, and that we have been endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights. We, the entire human race, have the right to our lives, liberty, and our property. With this statement, it should become evident that my secular libertarian views are firmly laid on the foundation of my faith and belief that we are created.

On life

As a Christian, I believe that ALL human life is sacred. God’s commandment, “You shall not murder” (Exodus 20:13) is a law that applies to all. I believe that the only being in all of existence with the moral authority to take human life is the author of it. Therefore, I am opposed to abortion, unjustified war, and the death penalty. While I do believe that we have the right to defend our lives with violent force, if necessary, I do not believe that it is morally justified to take a life for any other reason. If it is immoral to take human life, then it follows that it is equally immoral to support a government that engages in the immoral act of murder.

On liberty

I believe that the only being in all of existence with the moral authority to govern the lives of man is man’s creator. This understanding has led me to the conclusion that neither I, nor anyone else, is morally justified in dictating to another how he or she may live. How one chooses to live is a decision that is between that individual and God, and God Himself has given us free will that we may be free to choose to accept Him or not. As C. S. Lewis states in Mere Christianity,

“God created things that had free will. That means creatures which can go either wrong or right. Some people think they can imagine a creature, which had no possibility of going wrong; I cannot. If a thing is free to be good, it is also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible. Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. A world of automata-of creatures that work like machines-would hardly be worth creating. The happiness which God designs for His higher creatures is the happiness of being freely, voluntarily united to Him and to each other in an ecstasy of love and delight compared with which the most rapturous love between a man and a woman on this earth is mere milk and water. And for that, they must be free” (52).

Some argue that because man is imperfect it is necessary to use coercion, backed with the threat of violent force, to ensure a stable society. However, there is a hole in this argument. Arming human beings and granting them the authority to use coercion and violence does not magically transform them into morally superior beings. In fact, the historical evidence proves just the opposite. It is in the nature of man that once having gained power, he seeks to expand it and will not stop at oppression, violence, and tyranny in violation of our God given rights to achieve that goal. Because I believe that the only being in all of existence that has the moral authority to govern the lives of man is man’s creator, I cannot support a government of men, who will always seek to violate the right to life, liberty, and property of other human beings.

On property

It is one of the tenets of my faith that theft is immoral. I believe that it is self-evident that there is no one who is exempt from the commandment “Thou shalt not steal,” (Exodus 20:15) whether they are in a position of power or not. Theft will always be theft regardless of who engages in the activity and, it will always be wrong. When the threat of aggressive violence is used to take from someone that which belongs to him to give it to someone else, it cannot, in any way be justified. Even when theft has been legally sanctioned, it is still theft, and in fact, as the threat of violence is used, it is worse; it is robbery! Everyone has the natural right to be the sole decision maker regarding what will, or will not be done, with the fruit of his labor. As God is the only being in all of existence with the moral authority to govern man, He is the only one with the right to require us to part with the fruit of our labor for the benefit of others. No state can exist apart from the exploitation of the people. Government must be funded to exist and government does not produce anything to fund its own existence. The argument in support of government is that it exists to protect the rights of the people that it governs. However, as government cannot exist without violating the property rights of the people, the existence of government actually contradicts the stated purpose for its own existence. Therefore, it would be immoral for me to support the existence of government that can only exist by exploiting the very people that it governs.

In my relation to my fellow man, I believe that I am completely sovereign over my own life and the only being who has any sovereign authority over my life is God. As I believe that only God has the moral right to govern our lives, I am a firm believer in the sovereignty of the individual. No human being has the right to require anything from another human being. The only morally just expectation that anyone may have of another is that he NOT violate the rights of life, liberty, or property of anyone. Beyond that, it is God’s to govern.

To suggest that libertarian philosophy is Satanic, is completely absurd.”

Samantha – A Christian libertarian

(Taken from a Facebook post by “I bet Ludwig Von Mises can get more fans than John Maynard Keynes”)

After years of the US Federal Government debt financing wars, foreign nations holding US Debt were nervous of our ability to repay. As a result they began to call on this debt by requesting the gold their dollars were promising. Fearing gold reserves would run dry and the dollar would fail President Nixon removed the United States from the gold standard in 1971. Upon removing the United States from the gold standard President Nixon said “we are all Keynesians now”.

Since that date, to buy what $1.00 would buy in 1971 you would need $5.51 in 2011. That is over a 500% decrease in the buying power of the dollar.

Since that date, the price of most food and other staples has increased by over 700%. Homes, automobiles, and other items also increased by over 700% in the same time.

Since that date, the size of our national debt has risen from roughly $500 Billion to roughly $15,000 Billion or $15 trillion ($15,000,000,000,000.00)

It is important to note that prior to 1971 we may have been on a gold standard but we were already following many Keynesian theories on economic policy. (Hence the $500B in debt, and the first trade deficit in history)

More systemic problems originated in 1913 when the Federal Reserve System was implemented. I will talk about this in another post.

Full on Keynesian economic theory has been in practice for decades now and the results have been obvious.

– The Federal Government is much, much bigger
– The Federal Debt is much, much bigger
– The price of goods and services are much, much higher
– Wages are higher, but have not kept pace with price inflation

Why then are people (particularly politicians) still clinging to Keynesian economic theory? Why are most college courses teaching the Keynesian theory almost exclusively?

The positive results are hard to ignore, but easy to dismiss. Following the ideas of Keynes led to a remarkable and fast growth of wealth and business in the United States. But as the old adage goes, it was too good to be true.

The Keynesian growth was/is unsustainable. It is primarily based on large amounts of debt and the debtors are/were massively over leveraged. I have few qualms with bank loans and debt because they have an important role in the market. The loans are in fact a product being supplied by the banks and the individual or business in debt is the purchaser paying interest as payment for the product (principle). However….

The unsustainability of debt began when the fascist relationship between Big Government and corporate banks was mutually benefited by loose lending practices. By this I mean that the federal government encouraged and mandated lower requirements for individuals getting loans. (Specifically home loans) Banks obliged because they were betting on small amounts of foreclosures and subsequent resales at higher prices to boost profits.

The big banks also were almost assuredly guaranteed safety by the federal government insiders who promised them they would be taken care of if the bubble burst, and they were. (TARP, Bailouts, QE1, QE2). So how did Big Government benefit?

The big government insiders used their positions of power to make millions betting on the housing market and investing in banks that would eventually be given federal favoritism. They made short sales, created credit default swaps, utilized fractional reserve lending and gambled with others investments. When the bubble burst and people began to see what was happening, the Federal Government via the Federal Reserve stepped in and said, “do not worry, we will save the markets, banks, and individuals”.

The heroes in our Federal Government saved us again! Hooray!

Not so fast. The policy of bailouts and quantitative easing has pumped trillions of dollars of “stimulus” into the economy, but at what expense? I compare it to giving a dying heroin addict more heroin to keep them from dying from withdrawal, they will continue to be addicted and die very slowly but at least they lived another day, right?.

We need an intervention! Congress needs to put the needles away and quit increasing the debt ceiling, quit running a budget deficit, quit adding to the national debt, stop waging unnecessary foreign wars, and do their jobs! Serve the American people and their best interests as they were elected to do.

Some light weekend reading……eh not so much.

It is long and a little out there, but it should make you stop and think.

Is Presidential candidate Rick Santorum actually Butthead from MTV’s “Beavis and Butthead”?

The pictures share a breathtaking resemblance.

But is there more to this conspiracy?

I think so.

I will offer the evidence.

You be the judge.

Rick Santorum can’t stand homosexuals and doesn’t think that they should be able to get married.

Butthead uses the term gay as a slur.

Rick Santorum has recently been endorsed by the lead singer of metal band Megadeth

Butthead wears an AC/DC shirt always, and Megadeth music videos have been featured on the show “Beavis and Butthead”

Rick Santorum can be seen with his upper lip curled over his teeth almost at all times, especially during debates.

Butthead’s gums above his upper teeth are constantly exposed.

When Rick Santorum speaks all that I hear is “Uhhhh…..”

When Butthead speaks, his sentences are frequently interrupted with “Uhhhh…..”

I am convinced that Rick is living a double life.

I would appreciate any further help connecting the dots on this mystery.

A new reality TV show is currently airing on the National Geographic Channel it is called “Doomsday Preppers”.

Although I find it interesting and will probably watch every episode, I have a suspicion that this show is nothing more than propaganda. More specifically, propaganda intended to make people engaged in disaster preparedness appear to be fringe lunatics.

I have not watched any episodes of this show yet so my opinion is based on pure speculation. Maybe once I do I will change my tune, or maybe Im right? (Since writing this, I have watched 1 episode. My opinion did not change, you will see why further in this post.)

The show is intended to highlight the most extreme cases of preparation. One can easily see how only showing extreme cases of preparation would effect the general opinion of the topic. On the contrary, the show “Hoarders” doesn’t make everyone with a storage shed full of junk guilty of hoarding. So I may be stretching a bit on this one.

Either way, if you read my blog, or are just curious about “preppers” keep in mind, like all groups, there are varying motivations and approaches.

I do not have preparations for any one disaster scenario (little own all of them). I have mostly attempted to plan for myself and my family in order to hedge against rising food costs and other costs of living. I have somewhat prepared for natural disasters, and after seeing our neighbor to the southwest, Joplin, destroyed by natural disaster and all of the totally unprepared people that there were, I feel compelled to do more. There are facts of life that we cannot escape, bad things happen, bad things can happen to good people, unexpected events occur every day, and ultimately we are responsible for caring for ourselves and our families.

UPDATE: I started writing this post before the first episode of Doomsday Preppers had aired. Since that time, a prepper shown in the first episode has been deemed “mentally deficient” by his doctor and has had his firearms confiscated by the police. Story here.

You be the judge, was I right? Is Doomsday Preppers just propaganda intended on discrediting the “prepping” movement?

Here is a great article and video. Watch and read and then tell me that preppers are paranoid and that there is no reason to have some extra food in the cupboard.

UPDATE: May 30, 2012- Prepper sentenced to prison time.
